Artist Statement

My art aims to encapsulate the very essence of nature's symphony, attempting to convey the memory and sensation of my experiences. Growing up across diverse landscapes—from the beaches of Barbados to the mountainous regions of Lake Placid—instilled in me an unwavering connection to the power and beauty of the natural world. Influenced by the spirited strokes of John Constable and the tempestuous energy of Joseph Turner, my work seeks to capture the emotional impact of nature's ever-shifting moods. Embracing the techniques of classic impressionists and sculptors, I employ a unique fusion of oil paint and gel mediums to create tactile, textured landscapes that beckon the viewer to explore beyond the canvas.

Impressionist paintings, particularly those of Monet and Renoir, have profoundly influenced my artistic expression. Their revolutionary approach to capturing the essence of nature through light, color, and fleeting moments resonates deeply with me. Additionally, discovering Gino Severini and Kandinsky during my first trip to Italy at age fourteen expanded my artistic horizon, blending abstraction with the emotive force of impressionism. For me, art isn't about replicating reality; it's about inviting the viewer to join in the calmness and adventure of nature's embrace. My art strives to evoke emotions, inviting contemplation and that sense of wonder when facing the unknown.
